Well! What a year this has been, in all ways. Which nobody can deny. Every single person in the entire world has been affected in some way or other by this singular year. To most, it has been a bumpy and somewhat chaotic road, full of upheaval, disappointment and mess. To some, it has been a time of great sadness. I, however, had found myself in a uniquely positive situation and saw it as a great opportunity. One that I would possibly never see again.
2020 has been one of the most exhausting years of my life, but simply because I have never been so busy. I have never been so motivated. I realised, after having been making music for many years, that here was finally my opportunity to make it public and share my goodness (or badness, depending on whose side you’re on) with the world. In short, 2020 gave me time. Each day I saw as a challenge that I had to accept, and in doing so, must produce my best work. Quality was vital - but so was quantity. Looking back on the year, I am actually rather astounded how much I managed to achieve in just one year.
This has been a year of firsts. Things I have never done before. And it was chock-full of them!
Although I have been making pop music for years, I had never before made truly modern pop songs.
I had never learnt anything about social media seriously.
Never been on streaming platforms before.
Never done a music video properly.
Never made an animated graphics video.
Never written or recorded a rap before.
Never turned my voice into a woman's before.
Never learnt so much about mixing.
Never been voted for anything.
Never reached number one in anything.
Never had so many fans of what I do.
Never has my voice been so good.
Never had so many ideas before.
Never been so determined.
Never worked so hard.
Never been so ceaseless.
Never been so focussed.
Never written any reviews or any actual words before.
Never designed a website before.
Never been actively part of an organisation before.
Never designed anything before.
Never officially released a Christmas song before.
Never been likened to George Michael before…!
There will be more, but truly, despite what most of the world has had to deal with, this has been the most revolutionary year of my life.
I have however barely been at all able to see my parents or my girlfriend, so it has not all been a bed of roses. I yearn for this filthy virus to go away, and soon. But there is no denying, it has done me personally more good than harm. Although we have all had some truly tough times and it has been quite the ordeal, I think many of us have seen a positive side to it all. Some of us - not myself - have been able to spend far more time with their family. Despite obvious distance, I feel people in a way feel closer to others, and an almost forgotten kindness and sensitivity has been brought to the fore. Let us not leap back into the other kind of chaos we left behind oh-so many moons ago. Hopefully we will become better people, in terms of kindness, politeness, generosity, patience, sacrifice, peace and love. 2020 may very well have been a blessing in disguise…!
Enough of the treacly preachiness - I’m not a religious man - let’s enjoy what we can, while we can. Here’s to 2021 - onward and upward!!
I would very much like to thank ALL of you. You have been utterly amazing, and have made me keep going. I wouldn’t bother without your love and support. It all seems to be going rather well, and I believe I can get there with your continued help, in just simply being here to look and listen.
Much more to come in 2021…
For those of you who haven’t heard all my music so far, it is available on all known streaming platforms, with accompanying videos on YouTube.
Happy New Year everyone! CC x
Let me know YOUR thoughts on 2020...
